This DIY face mask is easy to sew with this tutorial and the free template. I have made this mask with a beautiful mermaid design from Mujka. But you can of course use any cute fabric you want.
Supplies needed for this face mask:
* Cute cotton fabric of your choice for the outside
* Normal basic cotton fabric of your choice for the inside
* 2 pieces of small elastic, cut to 8" (or longer for larger faces)
* Basic sewing supplies: machine, pins, iron etc.
Scale the template design to make the mask size you need.
Print the template. And cut out.
Use the template to cut the outside fabric twice.
Use the template to cut the inside fabric twice too.
Place the right sides of the 2 outer
fabric pieces together and sew along the curved edge with 3/8 inch seam
allowance.
Place the right sides of the 2 inside
fabric pieces together and also sew along the curved edge with 3/8 inch seam
allowance.
Clip in both, using scissors, curves towards the seam being careful not to clip the seam line.
On the inside fabric, fold 3/8
inches under twice on both edges, iron and add an edge stitch.
Place the inside layer on top
of the outside layer, with the right sides facing together. Align the center
seams. Sew the bottom end the edges of the mask together, with 3/8 inch seam
allowance.
Turn the face mask right side
out. Iron the seams flat.
Fold the raw edges of the
outer layer under twice so that the edge
meets the edge of the inside layer. Topstitch to form a casing for the elastic.
Insert a 8 inch elastic piece
through the both casings. Attach
the ends and create a loop.
If you want you can insert a filter into
the pocket.
And you are ready! You have made a fabric mask with a design you like.
NOTE:
* These masks are not intended for medical-grade masks.
* Fabric masks should be washed after each use and every use.
